MICA PGCM-ADVERTISING AND MARKETING COMMUNICATION

India’s Pioneering Programme in Crafting Creative Communications (CCC)

MICA’s Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) in Advertising and Marketing Communication is an AICTE-approved, one-year, full-time residential programme for people who want to “make the work”, not just talk about it. It is designed for aspiring copywriters, art directors and creative thinkers headed for the advertising industry.

The programme moves from strategic foundation and creative ideation through creative craft, presentation and industry immersion to industry alignment. It is judged the way the industry judges creative work: by jury, with your work on the wall.

Set on MICA’s 19-acre residential campus in Shela, Ahmedabad, PGCM-AMC sits under MICA’s School of Applied Creativity.

What is MICA PGCM-AMC?

A Programme Built on Creative Craft, Strategy and Technology MICA PGCM-AMC (earlier known as CCC), is a one-year, full-time residential programme offered by MICA, Ahmedabad, under the School of Applied Creativity. It is structured across four terms.
It has been designed for a specific ambition: a career in advertising and the creative industry, as a copywriter, art director or creative strategist.
What distinguishes it is that craft and strategy are taught together rather than as separate disciplines. Students learn to find the insight before they write the line, and to build the campaign before they present it. Creative decisions come with reasoning attached.

MICA has three objectives for its PGCM-AMC graduates

• To lead the creative product and processes of marketing communication across traditional and digital media.

•  To integrate creativity, technology and consumer experience into communication decisions.

•  To drive innovation across creative products and platforms in emerging media industries.
Graduates move into roles in advertising agencies, in-house brand and creative teams, content studios and independent creative ventures, principally as copywriters and art directors, and progressing into creative strategy and leadership.

The PGCM-AMC Course design and Curriculum

Four Terms. One Year. 48 Credits.

The curriculum is an immersion into creative communication in four stages, each building on the one before it.
Strategic Foundation and Creative Ideation

Learning to think before you make.

Students learn to understand the brand and its context, identify insights, frame marketing and communication problems, and translate them into Creative Strategies.

They then learn to make the crucial leap from Creative Strategy to Big Idea. They learn how ideas are generated, articulated and evaluated.

This is where strategic thinking meets creative ideation, giving the work a strong foundation before students begin mastering its craft.
Mastering the Creative Craft

The making term, and the heart of the programme.

Copywriting and art direction are taught in parallel through progressive modules, developing the two core creative disciplines of advertising side by side.

Students learn to turn ideas into compelling work across formats and media, building the craft, judgement and technical skills required to make communication distinctive, persuasive and effective.
Presentation Skills and Industry Immersion

Making the work. Selling the work. Experiencing the industry.

Students learn how to articulate, present and sell creative ideas with clarity and conviction. They develop their ability to explain the thinking behind the work, demonstrate the creative solution and persuade an audience of its value.

Creative thinking and craft come together in film, integrated campaigns and other forms of finished work, with AI integrated into the creative process.

The term also brings students closer to industry practice through interaction with working professionals and an international immersion.
Industry Alignment

Taking the learning into the real world.

Students apply their creative and strategic capabilities in an industry environment, bringing together what they have learned across the year with the demands of professional practice.

The term is about moving from being a student of creative communication to being ready to contribute as a creative professional.

The Creative Communications Process

The programme follows a clear journey:

Strategic Foundation

Understand the problem. Find the insight. Build the Creative Strategy.

Creative Ideation

Turn the Creative Strategy into the Big Idea.

Creative Craft

Turn the Big Idea into compelling work.

Presentation & Industry Immersion

Articulate, present and defend the work. Experience how the industry works.

Industry Alignment

Apply the learning in a professional environment.

What You'll Actually Learn

PGCM-AMC is a craft-first programme.
The teaching is studio-driven. Students work through real briefs, make creative decisions, receive critique and build a portfolio of finished work.
• Insight mining and creative strategy

• Creative ideation and Big Idea development

The programme is designed to develop not just the ability to produce creative work, but the ability to think through why the work should exist, what it should do and how it should be made.

Creativity With AI, Not Against It

AI is integrated into the curriculum rather than bolted on.

Students learn to use AI as a creative and strategic tool: to explore possibilities, challenge assumptions, develop ideas, experiment with executions and accelerate the creative process.
The aim is not to replace creative thinking with AI, but to develop creatives who know how to think with AI.
The integrated campaign experience brings these capabilities together, with students using AI tools as part of developing campaign work.

Who Is the Programme For?

PGCM-AMC is designed for graduates with creative thinking and communication skills, fine arts graduates seeking strategic grounding, working professionals needing formal creative credentials, aspiring writers, designers and storytellers seeking structured training, and entrepreneurs planning creative agencies or content ventures.
A creative background is not mandatory.

The PGCM-AMC Advantage

The PGCM-AMC advantage rests on four things:

01. Craft + Strategy

A full year of creative craft, strategy and industry practice in one intensive programme.

02. Portfolio + Jury

Jury-assessed, portfolio-led learning that mirrors how the industry evaluates creative work.

03. Global + Industry Exposure

International immersion and industry experience built into the year.

04. The MICAn Network

Access to MICA’s wider alumni network of more than 5,000 MICAns worldwide.

Campus

For creative students, this matters in a specific way: ideas don’t shut off when class ends. Late-night critiques in studios, impromptu collaborations across cohorts and the rhythm of building portfolios alongside people who care about the same craft become part of how the work develops.
The PGCM-AMC cohort is intentionally small to allow studio-style mentorship.
Students come from diverse academic backgrounds, including fine arts, humanities, design, journalism, management and engineering, and from a mix of fresh graduates and working professionals returning for formal creative training.
The wider MICAn community across PGDM, PGDM-C and the School of Applied Creativity adds breadth through cross-programme collaborations, shared events and an alumni network that spans more than three decades.
Campus life is anchored by signature events that are MICA-specific: Micanvas, the institute’s annual cultural and creative festival, and Mic-Drop, alongside studio showcases, portfolio juries and guest workshops with industry creatives.
It is the steady rhythm of this environment that turns creative learning into the experience of becoming a MICAn.

What MICA'S Graduates Do Now

Coming from a non-communication background as a fresher, CCC truly opened up a whole new world of creativity for me. It helped me find confidence in my own creative voice. Today, I’m placed at Leo Burnett Mumbai as a Junior Copywriter, and I don’t think any of this would have been possible without CCC.

Pranay Jain

Junior Copywriter, Leo Burnett Mumbai

My journey through CCC at MICA played a defining role in shaping how I think and create today. It pushed me to move beyond surface-level ideas and focus on clarity, intent, and craft. That foundation led me to an exciting placement as a Copy Supervisor at FCB Kinnect, where I get to ideate, write, and refine ideas while helping teams push the quality of their thinking further

How a Studio-Driven Programme Differs

MICA PGCM-AMC is not a traditional management or design programme.

It occupies a deliberately distinct space, one that integrates creative craft, strategy and emerging technology in a single curriculum rather than treating them as separate disciplines.

For aspirants choosing between PGCM-AMC and other routes, the distinction is clear.

A traditional management programme such as an MBA or PGDM teaches business and marketing strategy, but typically does not develop deep creative craft.

A pure design programme builds visual and product design skills, but rarely engages with creative strategy or campaign thinking at the same depth.

A mass communication programme covers media and journalism, but is not focused specifically on the advertising and brand creative industry.

PGCM-AMC is built for the seam between these, for people who want to make work, not just analyse it,and who want to think about that work strategically rather than simply execute briefs.

For those drawn more to management-led marketing or brand careers, MICA PGDM-C is the more aligned route.
