The School of Applied Creativity
As AI makes past and present information and knowledge universally accessible, the locus of economic value will shift. The capacity to recall, organize and analyze information, a considerable competitive advantage in the Information age, will no longer be a sufficient differentiator. Rather the defining skill of future value creation will be the ability to imagine, to construct novel and new ideas, solutions and futures that transcend existing knowledge structures.
This transition mirrors previous historical shifts in value generation. The Industrial Age prioritized manual labor and mechanical knowledge asymmetry; the Information Age rewards data fluency and cognitive patterning. The Imagination Age, by contrast, will elevate future oriented cognition, creativity and innovation as the strategic capability for value creation.
AI knows the past and the present, and it can even predict the immediate future. But what it can’t do is imagine.
And for India, that is our gift: we come from centuries of oral traditions, folklore, and storytelling. At MICA, we believe it’s time to demystify creativity and show that imagination isn’t just a talent — it’s a skill that can be taught and nurtured.
In today’s world, imagination is the new currency.
Creativity itself rests on three pillars:
- Imagination — seeing what doesn’t exist yet
- Communication — sharing that vision powerfully with others
- Validation — translating it into ideas, products, and solutions the world values
But the real question isn’t just how we imagine and create, but:
How do we bring economic and social value to what we imagine?
Applied creativity bridges imagination and innovation, translating speculative new ideas and futures into actionable societal and economic value.
This reframing calls for an educational transformation. MICA’s School for Applied Creativity is the Institution’s response to this critical global imperative.
