The article focuses on Private Labels in India, including study of evolution of Private label, international scenario, impact on consumers and private labels in difference categories such as food and grocery, apparels and consumer durables. Growth of private label is directly linked to the growth of organized retailing. Private label’s share in the organized retail in India is about 7%, but it is as high as 40% in European countries and as low as less than 1% in china. The article provides a snapshot of various retailers offering Private labels.
