Ahmedabad, February 24, 2015

The stage was set, splotches of yellow with cloudy lamps and dream catchers were sprinkled across the campus and people were abuzz. The first edition of MICA’s Annual Cultural Fest, the Yellow Umbrella Fest kicked off with a great start with the inauguration ceremony chaired by our esteemed faculty members, Prof. Vaneet Chibber, Prof. Sreekumar Pillai and Prof. Subhash Tendle.

The evening of Day 1 was all about drumming up a storm with Rujul Vora who started The Drum Circle, a circle of hand drums and cooperation in the groves. A force strong enough to resonate through the walls, with Radio One streaming MICA’s beats all through the airwaves of Ahmedabad. Shradha Shivnani, PGP-2, who was a part of the drum circle, said, “For an amateur like me, drum circle was a beautiful way of connecting to music. Playing in a group helps one let go of his/her inhibitions to pick up an instrument. `I would say it’s a good starting point to reach out to a lot of us.”

Students, participants and other hungry folk tucked into scrumptious kebabs from Varas Bhai and any college going student’s gastronomic vice, Ram Bhai’s infamous Maska Bun along with piping hot chai.

With music in the background and a night filled with dumb charades and the PJ Quiz, The School of Ideas was filled with excitement till the wee hours of the morning. Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, PGP-2, who was one of the participants of PJ Quiz, said, “The quiz was a great stress buster and was a fun filled event. A big thank you to the quizmasters for ensuring such a good start to Yellow Umbrella Fest ”.

On Day 2, the early birds on campus had the pleasure to interact with Baradwaj Rangan, Senior Deputy Editor at The Hindu and winner of the National Film Award for ‘Best Film Critic’ at Author’s Speak. He not only spoke about his days in Engineering College but also about writing and his passion for films, For those more theatrically inclined, the renowned Qasar Padamsee graced our hallowed red brick halls and conducted a unique theatre workshop exploring pitch, stage presence and love of theatre.

The rest of Day two has a fun line up of events, with Twist in the tale, Maverick and more.
