Ahmedabad, November 23, 2015

Sankalp, the student-run theatre committee of MICA organized their flagship event, the Grand Annual Production staged in the HK College of Arts in Ahmedabad. This year, the team, led by the director-duo of Varsha Dinesh and Baibhav Prakash presented their play in English titled, “Rim Of The Apocalypse’, an adaptation of ‘Marisol’ by Jose Rivera, that is drenched in Nietzchean philosophy, set in a dystopian milieu. The play that lasted for over one and a half hours was performed on both the days of the weekend to a sizeable crowd comprising students of various institutes, faculty members and the general public.

A script that talked of various perspectives of tragedy through the eyes of its multiple characters, ‘Rim Of The Apocalypse’ attempted to explore emotions on the edge of sanity and the journey of its protagonist through trauma. To add to the haunting effect of the on-stage creatives and the emotions running high on the stage, the play was peppered with dance performances designed to lift the mood and heighten suspense as the plot unveiled itself. Leuuba Chopra, who played the role of the protagonist Marisol Perez said, “The experience of playing the lead in front of a large audience was thrilling. This is the first time I have taken to stage after my school days and hence, this would always be a cherished memory for me.”

Being the flagship event for the committee, the members and volunteers had been working for over a month to make the event a success. PriyalMewara, one of the members of the Sankalp Junior Team said, “There was a larger crowd on the second day when compared to the first, which was the result of positive word-of-mouth. Such responses always encourage us to get better and better.”

The play had a large cast, with 8 students enacting major parts and 13 students in dance roles. The play started at 8 PM on both the days and went on till 10 PM. The plot of the play is set in a world that is ending, the angels wanting humanity to fight against a senile God to save it. Lost in a world without a moon, where food and water has turned to salt and the sun rises south, the story followed the protagonist Marisol Perez as she journeys to find out what it takes to reshape humanity's future.
