Early this Saturday morning, the premises of Shela’s Government school, ShelaPratmikShala saw a great buzz as MICA’s student-run community radio station MICAVAANI organized its flagship annual event, ‘AapnoManch’. The event is designed as a stage set for the people of Shela and nearby villages to facilitate expression of opinions and talents. This year, the event saw a tremendous response, as over 300 people from the villages came together to make the event a success.

Starting at around 8 in the morning, the event lasted for over 4 hours, filled with color and celebration as people across age groups took to the stage to display their talents. There were several competitions organized by the student team, including dance and singing events. The popularity of the radio station and the student RJs among the crowd was palpable as they instantly recognized and applauded them.

MICA’s Academic Dean Dr.Preeti Shroff was the chief guest for the day and delivered a heart-felt address in Gujarati to resonate with the crowd. The entire event was conducted mostly in Gujarati with a smattering of Hindi in order to appeal to the audience. “The event is a window for MICAVAANI to connect to the people we cater to in an environment where we can freely bond with them and understand their perspectives, so that we can deliver content that enriches their lives,” said RJ KanjSaurav, one of the members of MICAVAANI.

“We organized a MICAVAANI trivia quiz and were humbled by the enthusiastic response from the crowd as they answered all our questions eagerly. It was an emotional moment for us, when we realized that our messages caught the right people. This will only motivate us to carry on the good work,” he said. Known for spreading social messages and awareness on critical issues including sanitation, hygiene and education, MICAVAANI enjoys immense popularity and listenership in the villages surrounding MICA, and the team has seen such exhibitions of affection from the crowd several times before.

The winners of the event today were awarded with trophies and certificates from team MICAVAANI, apart from MICAVAANI merchandize and radio-sets.
