Ahmedabad, October 11, 2015

There hardly are things as untouched and divine as the sound of Surbahaar that reverberated in the confines of Mani Aiyer auditorium in MICA. Organised by SPICMACAY and Studio7, the evening of Friday observed transference of beauty that took the form of Dhrupad style of music.

SPIC MACAY or Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth is a voluntary, apolitical, participatory student movement which aims to enrich the education process by exposing students to the rich cultural traditions of India. It has more than 300 chapters, in India and abroad, and organises more than a 2500 programmes every year in schools and colleges

The event featured Pundit PushparajKoshit, an accomplished Sitar and Surbahaar player, and a leading exponent of the Dhrupad Style of classical music. He performs regularly for Air India Radio and has traveled extensively through India as well as toured and taught in Europe. VivekKurangale, a young talented pakhawaj player, accompanied him. There was an ethereal quality about their music and the stories they told the students of MICA through their instruments. It was a revival of faith, in a way, of the glory of India’s rich heritage and history, which is deeply rooted in its music.

MICA Studio7, is a three year old committee on MICA Campus that facilitates culture and music amalgamation on and off campus. They continuously strive towards connecting believers in music to the art through live performance, artist management, and digital representation of musicians. They annually host events on campus to promote different and unexplored music genres and artists.
