Ahmedabad, April 26, 2016

MICA, India’s premier management school for Strategic Marketing and Communication held its Academic Retreat 2016-17 from April 20 to 22 in Ahmedabad. The annual event witnessed participation from different stakeholders of the institute including alumni, recruiters and community in addition to the MICA President, Dean, all faculty members and administrative council members. This year the central theme of the retreat was “MICA Education Ecosystem: Ideation to Execution”.

The three-day event kick-started on April 20 at the House of MG with the first day interactions focussed on the strategic alignment of the MICA brand and vision to the stakeholders and partners globally and locally. The inaugural speaker was Mr. Abhay Mangaldas, Convener - Indian National Trust for Art and Architectural Heritage (INTACH) Ahmedabad Chapter & Founder - The House of MG. During his address, Mr. Mangaldas put a great emphasis on the need for a better connection between the Ahmedabad community and the institutes of national and global repute in the city including MICA. The inaugural session was followed by the Dean’s panel on “Industry Strategy, Management, Innovations: MICA Education Alignment”. The speakers at the panel were Mr. Ganesh Nayak, COO & Executive Director - Zydus Cadila, Ms. Nita Kapoor, Head - India News Ventures News Corp (VCCircle, Big Decisions), Vishal Mehta, Founder & CEO - Infibeam and Alpana Parida, President - DY Works. MICA Dean Dr. Preeti Shroff moderated the panel. The topics covered in the panel were “Dynamic Industry Environment and Trends, Organisational Values and Priorities, Industry Expectations: Demand and Supply Intelligence and New Hire Career Path: Resume and Key Qualities”. The panel facilitated a very engaging discussion which clearly helped identify the strengths as well as gaps in terms of MICA industry alignment. Mr. Madhukar Kamath, President - MICA concluded the session with a summary of the takeaways from the Day 1 interactions. These takeaways constituted important building blocks for the discussion over the next two days of the retreat at MICA campus and remained the guiding principles for aligning MICA’s academic programmes to the present and future needs of the industry, right from admission to curriculum to pedagogy to recruitment.

The Day 2 of the retreat began with President Mr. Kamath’s welcome address. Speaking to the MICA community, he said, “MICA is 25 years old. Today MICA is an Educational Institution of repute.   MICA is respected and admired. During our first 25 years, MICA has grown slowly and steadily. And each one of us at MICA today can be proud of what we have helped build and what we have achieved. I consider it both an honour and privilege to now have the responsibility to work with and alongside each one of you and lead MICA into the future.” “In the life of every Organisation, Institution or even an Individual, there is always a ‘Point of Inflexion’. Many a times, there is more than one. For MICA, this is the point of Inflexion. MICA will now need to ‘switch gears’. The Agenda for MICA is now to double in the next 5 years, what we have achieved in the last 25 years. In size, scale, quality, output, reputation and admiration. This will be our agenda, going forward.” he added.

Mr. Kamath’s address was followed by the area specific meetings for beginning preparations for realigning the curriculum and pedagogy. Day 3 was dedicated to the operational aspects where different departments made their presentation on how they’re going to equip the institute with the required infrastructure and technology, in order to be prepared for the current and future needs of pedagogy and programme delivery.

Following were the major outcomes of the Academic Retreat 2016-17:
