Ahmedabad, January 26, 2016

Sunday evening saw MICA, Ahmedabad’s campus come alive with an exciting and interesting blend of music. As part of The Grand Alumni Meet 2016 and organized by Studio7, the music committee at MICA, the evening brought together two upcoming artists, Kolkata based Multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, TajdarJunaid and Ahmedabad based Post-rock band, As We Keep Searching. The evening began with an exciting audience filling the Open Air Theater despite the dropping temperature.

The first performance was by As We Keep Searching comprising of band members UddipanSarmah on Guitar and Vocals, ShubhamGurung on Keyboard, Sampling and guitar, Bob Alex on the Bass and Gautam Deb on the drums, who enthralled the audience with their unique and inventive style of Post-rock, playing some of their popular tracks from their album Khwaab. The music set the mood for the rest of the exciting and vibrant evening.

This act was then followed by the sweet and soulful strains of the charango played by TajdarJunaid who sang some of his popular tracks from his latest album What Color Is Your Raindrop, along with his band which comprised of Bhaskar Dutta on Violin and vocals, Jehangir on the drums and Nathan Thomas on the bass, who captured imagination with dreamy and adventurous tunes. Each song was a magical, musical experience in it itself as it conjured up memories of distant places with lost stories to tell. The evening saw music styles ranging from Post-rock to Indian fusion to Blues as the two artists played for an enthusiastic and lovely audience.

The following is a transcript of the interview taken with TajdarJunaid:

Me: Who are the artists/composers who inspire you?

Tajdar: I look at all kinds of artists for inspiration. For example, how do writers deal with writer's block. Or how do painters get the perfect hue by combining different colours. I'm not interested in the technical details. I'm more interested in the process and the thinking that goes behind it.

Me: Tell us about what colour is your raindrop. What's the story behind it?

Tajdar: I was covering artists. I was doing floyd and clapton. Then I thought that I'm just a good photocopy machine, picking up what others have created. What am I creating? That's what inspired what colour is your raindrop. This is how my raindrop looks like. What's yours?

Me:  What's your take on the evolution of music in India, over the years?

Tajdar: There are two sides to it. The good side is that, today anyone can be a musician, with the help of technology. However, there is a flip side to it. There's no quality control. The thing is that honest work shows. If your work is honest, it will get across to people. People will appreciate it.

Me: We know you are a passionate musician. But what are other things that interest you?

Tajdar: I'm always curious. I love cooking! Last week I learned to cook Kerala Stew from YouTube.

TajdarJunaid is a well renowned Multi-instrumentalist Songwriter, Composer, and Producer. He is best known for his album What Colour Is Your Raindrop whichhas been named in the Top Albums in 2013 by Rolling Stones and Rock Street Journal. His song “Dastaan” will be heard in the legendary Iranian filmmaker, Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s new movie – The President. He has also created award winning soundtracks for films by AnuragKashyap productions, AparnaSen, Rituporno Ghosh amongst many others and some of his other songs having been featured in noted International films.

As We Keep Seaching is an upcoming Post-Rock/Experimental band which is making it big in the Indian music scene. With a blend of electronic, ambient and post-rock styles, the band’s unusual yet inventive style of music is to make the experience of the “otherness”, in part, a reality through music. To their credit, they are one of the most India bands in the Post-rock genre in India and have had their first international gig at Moscow, Russia to a cheering crowd of more than 1500.
