The International Communication Management Conference, 2017, organised by MICA, Ahmedabad, is being held at the institute from January 10-12th, 2017. Day 2 of the conference saw enlightening panelists take the stage and share knowledge with the audience. The day ended with a grand cultural performance by Ms. Mallika Sarabhai, Mr. Revanta Sarabhai and performers from her Darpana Academy.

Panelists Mr. Ganesh Nayak, Chief Operating Officer and ExecutiveDirector, Zydus Cadila HealthCare Ltd., Ms. GayatriRath, Director, Corporate Communications and Citizenship, Microsoft, India, and Ms. SushamaOza, Director, Strategy and Sustainability, ADANI Foundation, along with Professor John Garrison, discussed the changing role of capitalism in the panel discussion titled “Capitalism: Soul Mates or Adversaries”.

The discussion commenced with Professor Garrison’s introduction of the changing meaning of the words capitalism and communism, as he highlighted the changing scenario due to the introduction of Corporate Social Responsibility, right to information law etc.

Further, Mr. Nayak elaborated on the same idea, introducing the audience to the different kinds of capitalism. He said that the ‘major idea is to do the balancing act where the profit is used in a more better way for the society.’ Ms. Oza agreed, and emphasized the need for the proper utilization of resources for the marginalized sections of the society.

Ms. Rath educated the audience on the concept of value creation in capitalism, whereby she shed light on the importance of corporates in empowering the people and the economy. She divulged how Microsoft is helping the farmers through technological intervention for the farmers in Andhra Pradesh for a better society.

The day ended with a star-studded performance by Ms. Mallika Sarabhai’s Darpana Academy on the theme ‘India: Then, Now, Forever'. ‘India: Then, Now, Forever’ depicted India living daily in multiple realities. This show was a travel through time and incorporated classical, folk, tribal and contemporary dance to celebrate India’s multiculturalism and plurality.
