Pratibha (Pat) Vinayak is currently Adjunct Professor at MICA, the leading Communications Institute in India. She has over 33 years of experience covering virtually every area of communication…from communication strategy to publishing to strategic media planning and buying to broadcasting, research, public relations and corporate PR to training. She is passionate about media and her strength lies in ‘creative and lateral thinking’ to constantly keep pushing the bar and exploring new horizons. Her experience extends over a wide range of categories covering FMCG, personal care, foods and beverages, telecom, finance and investment, home durables, automotive, confectioneries, travel, jewelry and luxury goods
She started her career at Reader’s Digest in 1982 and was responsible for media research, training of the marketing and sales teams and corporate brand building. She moved to JWT in 1995 to plan communication strategies for some leading brands. She led the media team that launched Ford and Motorola in India and managed a portfolio of leading brands including DeBeers and Unilever.
She pioneered new buying practices to improve efficiencies vastly when she moved in 1996 to take charge of the media buying function in the division that managed the Unilever Media AOR within JWT (now Mindshare Fulcrum).
From JWT to Sony in 2000 gave her the opportunity to experience the broadcasting world, where her responsibilities covered audience and programming research, developing sales strategies, training the sales teams and Public Relations for the entire network of channels. She moved on to Carat as planning head and was responsible for the launch of Bharti telecom (Airtel) in Western India.
She returned to Mindshare in 2004 to head the buying function for Unilever and moved to Sri Lanka as Managing Director of Mindshare operations there for 2 years during 2007-8.
Back in Mindshare India in 2009, she helped set up the Aditya Birla Group Media AOR, the 2nd largest AOR at Mindshare after Unilever. She moved to a corporate role, managing and developing talent in 2011. Since August 2012, she has joined MICA as an Adjunct Professor where she teaches Communication Strategy, Media Planning, Media Buying and Audience Research
