To evaluate ways of improving water, sanitation & hygiene in schools
With a view to strengthen its Centre for Development Management and Communication (CDMC), MICA is now focusing on social change, as a part of which, it will come up with ways to improve hygiene and sanitation in urban schools of the city. To achieve this, the Urban Management Centre (UMC), along with MICA and CEPT is setting up the Ahmedabad Sanitation Action Lab (ASAL) in the city.
ASAL will design, implement, monitor and evaluate new ways of improving and sustaining positive changes in the arenas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in urban schools of Ahmedabad. Sharing more on the initiative, Dr Preeti Shroff, dean, MICA said, “For a long time, most social and development projects have fallen short in the last mile, in terms of creating an organic pull via effective communication. Lack of strategic marketing, communication, digital and conventional media planning has resulted in several worthy projects not meeting their objectives fully and the benefits being lost to key stakeholders. CDMC aims to change this as a key part of its mandate.”
At present, CDMC is working on a number of projects with different social institutions such as SEWA and UMC. MICA will also provide strategic support to Plan India for its global conference on children in a difficult situation. The institute will contribute data collection and story development for the grassroots, in this project.
