If your idea of enjoying and relaxing is laughing it out and you look forward to comedy shows, then this weekend event is for you. So, loosen up, make some time from your regular schedule and head to this standup comedy event at a popular spot on SG Highway on Friday.
Chirag Panjwani, 2 nd year MICA student, who will be performing solely at the event, said, “The aim behind such events is to increase the number of open mics and comedians in Ahmedabad. We want more and more youngsters to pursue their calling and give them a platform so that they can take it up as a profession.”
Chirag, who is from Agra and started doing comedy shows while he was working as an engineer in Bengaluru says, “This August alone, I and my group of friends from You Comedy, Yogi Soni (CEPT student), Lakshya Nayak (NIRMA student) and Shubham Upadhyay (PDPU graduate), have planned 20 open mics in Ahmedabad. We also keep inviting renowned comedians. In early August, I had performed with Chirayu Mistry at the Studio Pepperfry and we received a good response.”
Yogi, who is also a part of another such club ‘weekend club’ says, “You Comedy was started one and a half years back when there were not may comedy events being held in Ahmedabad. We wanted Amdavadis to laugh their heart out and open to this genre of entertainment. Thus, most of our mics and shows are free.”
Chirag adds, “ On September 1, we have invited standup comedian Shankar Chugani to perform. We hope, we will get a good response.”
Taha Lotiya of Studio Pepperfry which keeps organizing such events in city said, “We are an 18-month old company in Ahmedabad. Our studios across India mostly house furniture for display purpose as most of our operations are online. We keep hosting such events as the organisers like our ambience for entertainment purposes. We allow most of these events for free. However at times, the entry is through tickets and coupons.”
It seems as far as these youngsters are infusing some laughter into Amdavadis’ life, all is well.
