Global thinker, distinguished scholar and internationally acclaimed thought leader Dr Jagdish Sheth addressed the MICA community on 'How Digital Technology will transform Higher Education' in a research colloquium held on Tuesday. Dr Sheth gave his insights on the future of classroom environment, education technology and digitisation of academics.
He further spoke about the shift from the historical three 'R's of teaching - reading, writing and arithmetic to three I's of learning: interactive, integrated and individualised. Exemplifying how flipped classroom environment with online lectures followed by class discussions will be the new normal, he showed how textbooks will be video chapters with supplemental print materials. Sheth said, "As a post-effect of this, democratisation of scholarship and research will speed up, and online open-access journals shall be on equal pedestal and gain respect of scholars and academics.
He concluded his talk by exhorting the academic community to play a transformative role and stated that when a student is shaped and moulded through education, the value addition is infinite.
