Early this Wednesday morning, the premises of MICA saw a great buzz as MICA’s student-run community radio station MICAVAANI organized its flagship annual event, ‘Aapno Manch’. The event is designed as a stage set for the students of Shela and Telav to facilitate expression of opinions and talents. Aapno Manch saw a tremendous response, as over 500 people from the villages came together to make the event a success. The event lasted for over 4 hours, filled with fun and celebration as people across schools, from Shela Prathmik Shala to Telav Vidyalaya, took to the stage to display their talents.

Since this year’s theme revolved around Unity in Diversity, a lot of students were engaged in activities which inculcated art forms and culture from all around India like singing, dancing, fashion show and theatrics, each organized by the student team. The event also comprised of a prize distribution ceremony, wherein students with exceptional academic and sports performances were awarded. The winners and participants of the event today were awarded with goodies and certificates from team MICAVAANI, apart from MICAVAANI merchandize.

“The idea of this year’s theme was about giving back to the society and encourage students to be more inclusive and accepting along with learning different art forms. Also, this was a second successful year of the “Telav Teaching Project”, wherein the MICA community teaches the students of standard ninth and tenth, to integrate MICANs and the surrounding community. The love and support received from MICANs is also tremendous,” said RJ Ankit, one of the members of MICAVAANI.

Known for spreading social messages and awareness on critical issues including sanitation, hygiene and education, MICAVAANI enjoys immense popularity and listenership in the villages surrounding MICA, and the team has seen such exhibitions of affection from the crowd several times before.

The Title Sponsor of the event was SBI (State Bank of India) and YONO, was c0-sponsored by Induben Khakhrawala and was powered by UNICEF. The MICAVAANI team took this opportunity to provide information about the importance of education for every child.

MICA, Ahmedabad hosted the 7th AIM-AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium. The Consortium had 60 professors and scholars from 9 countries. 54 academic papers were presented in 3 parallel tracks.It was a unique congregation of academia and industry in the area of marketing.

The consortium took place from 4th January to 6th January, 2019, followed by a one-day con-ference on 7th January, 2019. The consortium provided an opportunity for doctoral students to present their research papers and receive guidance from eminent scholars in their field, along with the distinguished professors' lectures on mapping and the trajectory of the discipline of marketing.

This year, the doctoral consortium had a contemporary and relevant theme of 'Marketing Communication in the Digital Era'.

The doctoral meet was jointly organised by Dr.Shailendra Raj Mehta, President & Director MICA, Dr.Jagdish Sheth, Founder & Chairman of AIM, Emory University USA, Dr. V. Kumar, Co-founder of AIM from Georgia State University, USA and Mr. Russ Klein, CEO, American Marketing Association.

MICA, in Ahmedabad, and The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) recently signed a ‘Project Cooperation Agreement’ for a two-year maternal and child health management program. The program is designed to focus on improving maternal and child health through routine immunisation, adolescent empowerment and sanitation initiatives.

MICA president and director Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta, MICA dean Dr. Preeti Shroff and UNICEF Gujarat Chief Dr. Laxmi Bhawanilaunched the partnership. Project interventions will be based on needs identification across four districts (Narmada, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Kutch) and one urban area (Surat) in the State. Activities under this project will include improving health delivery systems, social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) and awareness programs. The program will also train health delivery personnel, community influencers and stakeholders such as - leaders, youth, women, and children.

The joint project aims to support and strengthen various departments of Government of Gujarat (Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, Education, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Development).

Dr. Viral Nagori, Assistant Professor, Digital Platform and Technologies, MICA, won the prestigious Instagram Research Award for Social Technologies. Dr. Narogi won the award for “The Role of Social Media Platforms in Enabling Women to be Entrepreneurs”. The winners were chosen from a large pool of applicants from a wide range of geographical regions, academic disciplines and topics, helping Instagram better understand the role that social technologies play in our world.

Instagram’s mission is to bring everyone closer, in order to do that, it needs to deepen its understanding of how people engage with social media in a variety of ways. With these awards, Instagram is supporting new and innovative research to understand the effects of social media on personal well-being and social commerce around the world. The findings from this research will be shared publicly with the research community.

Dr. Viral Nagori has more than 13 years of work experience and has presented and published total 37 papers in peer reviewed national and international journals and conferences. Currently, he is guiding 4 PhD scholars in the different domains of Computer Science. He is also a member of the editorial board and the reviewer board of national and international journals.

“Team Hustle Bustle” comprising of second year students Anushree Roy, Neha Agarwal and Sruthy Whence of MICA Ahmedabad’s PGDM-C course, emerged as the National Winners of 4Ps Challenger by Nestlé India. The competition involved proposing case study solution on ‘Nescafe Latte’ where the ask was to decide positioning, digital strategy and sampling activation idea.

It was conducted across 14 select B-schools across India. The preliminary round was a campus round, where basis submissions 5 teams were shortlisted and one team was selected from each campus as Campus Winners. Across these Campus Winners, the company shortlisted 5 teams for the National and final round.

The finalists for the National round were SIBM Pune, XLRI, IIM C, SP Jain and MICA. The final round involved presenting the case to the panel and was followed by a detailed Question and Answer round.

When asked about their experience in the face of stiff competition, the MICAn Team said, “The challenge was a live challenge and the ask of the case was very clearly defined. Being a proper end to end branding and marketing problem to solve, this was a great learning experience.
