“Team Hustle Bustle” comprising of second year students Anushree Roy, Neha Agarwal and Sruthy Whence of MICA Ahmedabad’s PGDM-C course, emerged as the National Winners of 4Ps Challenger by Nestlé India. The competition involved proposing case study solution on ‘Nescafe Latte’ where the ask was to decide positioning, digital strategy and sampling activation idea.

It was conducted across 14 select B-schools across India. The preliminary round was a campus round, where basis submissions 5 teams were shortlisted and one team was selected from each campus as Campus Winners. Across these Campus Winners, the company shortlisted 5 teams for the National and final round.

The finalists for the National round were SIBM Pune, XLRI, IIM C, SP Jain and MICA. The final round involved presenting the case to the panel and was followed by a detailed Question and Answer round.

When asked about their experience in the face of stiff competition, the MICAn Team said, “The challenge was a live challenge and the ask of the case was very clearly defined. Being a proper end to end branding and marketing problem to solve, this was a great learning experience.

MICA’s annual marketing fest, MICANVAS, held from 17th to 19th November 2018, saw over 300 students from various B-Schools such as SIBM, SCHMRD, IIM Nagpur, IIM Ahmedabad, NMIMS Mumbai participate in various competitions, events, and workshops.

The last day saw the culmination of the final rounds of various tough competitions, with the flagship event, ‘Last Manager Standing’, being won by Sagar Sachdeva, a student from SCMHRD, who cleared multiple rounds to win the grand prize of Rs. 1 Lakh.

The competition was extremely intensive and gruelling in which the candidate was tested through case studies, quizzes and other techniques on the various aspects which make a successful manager.

The musical genius of the sibling duo Salim-Sulaiman had the students of MICA grooving to their scintillating music on Sunday, November 19th night as the curtains came down on a memorable note for the 17th edition of MICANVAS. The fest ended on a high note with a power packed performance by Salim-Sulaiman as they managed to captivate the audience by their energetic stage presence. The duo’s performance was accompanied with other great performances by Bhoomi Trivedi, Vipul Mehta and Raj Pandit. The show saw a glorious ending with the song ‘Chak De India’ from the movie ‘Chak De’. The institute has been bringing major stars to their campus every year. Last year, Bollywood heartthrob Farhan Akhtar performed along with his band. Salim-Sulaiman’s performance is another feather to the cap of all the previous glorious MICANVAS events.

The MICANVAS events have created a buzz around the MICA campus and B-schools across the country. The case studies and the strategic questionnaires have persuaded participants to #ReThink their marketing knowledge and execution strategy.

The competition Dialectica was conducted– the ultimate debating competition in which the finalists went head to head on whether voting should be exclusive and not universal or not. Team ‘Ultimate Pfaff’ comprising of Vinay Jain and Archit Majumdar showed their intellectual and communication prowess to bag Rs. 30,000 prize money.

Topline Group, China in association with MICANVAS launched Huawei Annual Biz Challenge 2018 in which Team Thunder comprising of Aman Bansal, Akanksha Sharma and Richa Butala from SJMSOM, IIT Bombay won a cash prize of Rs. 1,25,000 and a sponsored trip to China. They will be visiting the manufacturing facility of Huawei, the world’s No. 2 smartphone manufacturer, and also have an opportunity to interact with the management of Topline and Huawei.

The MICANVAS community was excited to attend the workshops by FilterCopy which engaged students on the ideation and writing process involved in making good content. The FilterCopy team has seen enormous success with their webisodes on YouTube and are extremely popular amongst the student community.

MICANVAS reached a pinnacle with these events and provided a holistic opportunity to all the participants to understand the new ideas in strategic marketing and communication.

MICA Ahmedabad’s Centre for Media and Entertainment Studies (CMES), is delighted to announce the first OTT platform report "Indian OTT Platform- Streaming the New Age Narrative" of the country. The report is made in collaboration with Communication Craft Ahmedabad.

This report was launched at MICA’s Mindspeak Session on Novmeber 18, 2018. Piyush Mishra, Film Actor, Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta, President and Director, MICA and Chirag Dagli, Director, Communication Crafts unveiled the report. It can be viewed and downloaded from MICA’s website.

This report on the OTT sector covers key insights about the present ecosystem of the OTT platforms in India and gives insights into various applications available for the consumers. Indian OTT ecosystem is now far more competitive with major global players signing content licensing deals with Indian content generators. Video is the highest consumed category in the digital space. Media and Entertainment industry of India is rather small compared to the global markets. Indian M&E market is USD 22.7 billion but has a high growth rate of 13% moving forward. India’s 1.35 billion consumers, the growing internet penetration and speed, and the improving smartphone penetration are attracting many global players.

The report talks in depth about different OTT applications and the kind of reach it has and the future outlook of various segments and key trends. The present report will enable academia and industry to converge and discuss research based solutions for future issues and challenges.

This rapid growth of video consumption has created an opportunity for international studios and content owners to generate additional revenue. By 2020, India is expected to become the second largest video viewing audience globally.

A team from MICA won the regional round of Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Quiz 2018 on October 1. the quiz was organized across seven Indian cities.the finals will take place on November 1 in New Delhi. Broad theme of the quiz was Alfred Nobel's life and achievements, Nobel Prize and aureates, Sweden and its culture along with innovations and inventions.
