Anantha S Babbili
Professor of Communication & Media Studies in Texas
Anantha holds a Ph.D.from the University of Iowa, USA. Before that, he studied biological sciences for his undergraduate degree at the Osmania University, Hyderabad, and journalism for master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma.
He is a former Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He was also the Dean of the College of Mass Communication at the Middle Tennessee State University.Anantha taught and directed the Journalism & Media Studies department at Texas Christian University for more than two decades. He has served as a distinguished Rogers Chair of Studies in Journalism and New Information Technology at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada.
Anantha has lectured in Mexico, India, Slovakia Hong Kong, and China and has also co-authored a book. Besides, his research work has been extensively published in several books and international refereed journals.
A former journalist/writer and post-colonial studies scholar, Anantha is on the advisory board of the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences at the London School of Economics and has been a consultant to the BFI, to the United Nations and to the UNESCO project on media freedoms and human rights besides being the CEO of the World Affairs Council of South Texas.
Anantha was recognised as one the U.S. Professors of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He is a recipient of the Barry Bingham Award for meritorious teaching by the U.S. National Conference of Editorial Writers, and National Teaching Award by the Poynter Institute of Media Studies.
