FIVE-DAY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME ON BUSINESS RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS

Managerial decision-making in the Indian corporate sector has become increasingly complex, making it imperative for businesses to gain an in-depth understanding of the issues at hand, and to find optimum solutions to varied problems. This, in turn, highlights the need for structured and scientific business research in the Indian subcontinent. However, management researchers today face unprecedented problems regarding Research Methodology and its application in day-to-day business practices.

In such a situation, institutions committed to quality need to train their faculty in proper Research Methodology to better equip them in their search for knowledge. This programme has been designed to expose participants to the formulation of research problems, application of appropriate research design, and train them in data generation, data processing and statistical analysis at both the basic and advanced levels.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The objective of the workshop is to provide hands-on experience to the participants in understanding the process of conducting basic as well as advanced management research. The participants will learn how to make the most of statistical software widely used in business-research studies. At an advanced level, the participants will gain exposure to various multivariate methods in research, and understand advanced issues of research including econometrics, heteroscedasticity, and structural equation modelling. Although other methods, such as qualitative research will also be covered, the primary focus will be on survey research.

PEDAGOGY

Application of concepts and frameworks will be carried out through case analysis, discussions, software training, exercises and lectures.

The programme is designed and conducted by MICA faculty members with rich experience in academia, industry and consulting.

DR RASANANDA PANDA (PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR)

With a PhD in Applied Economics from Utkal University, Orissa, Dr Panda specializes in Macroeconomics and Applied Econometrics. Prior to his current position as MICA’s Head of General Management, Dr Panda has been associated with the School of Petroleum Management at Gandhinagar’s Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (2007–2011). He was also the Chief Economist (on contract) at the state-run Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) from October 2009 to September 2010, and taught Business Economics and Finance at MICA from 2002 to 2007. He started his career as a Trainee Academic Associate in Economics at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), where he worked for three years. He has also lectured for five years at the self-financed P.G. Centre for Management Studies under the Gujarat University in Ahmedabad.

Dr Panda’s other academic interests include econometric analysis of consumer behaviour models and economic analysis of Integrated Marketing Communications, especially in media and advertisement. He has also developed preliminary quantitative Brand Valuation Models for some Indian companies as an academic endeavour purpose. He has participated at a number of advanced level courses in Econometrics and Environmental Economics at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

DR SARLA ACHUTHAN

Dr Sarla Achuthan is currently Director, Research and Development, at the Gujarat Law Society, Ahmedabad. She began her career as part of the research staff at IIMA. Later, she joined B.K. School of Business Management, Gujarat University, and served as director for 15 years. Concurrently, she was also In-Charge Director at K.S. School of Business Management, under Gujarat University, for more than 10 years. She has also taught at a number of management institutions, including IIMA and MICA, as a visiting faculty. She was the convener of the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET), the state’s single-window system for admissions to MBA and MCA programmes, for three years. In addition, she has been involved in several AICTE, UGC and internationally funded projects. She has a number of publications and has acted as guide for several Ph.D. students. She is currently on the Board of ASE Capital Market Ltd, and was also on the Board of Ahmedabad Stock Exchange.

We recommend that you send your nominations early. If, for whatever reason, you cancel your nomination, we will refund the fee—provided we get a written request for cancellation at least 15 days ahead of the programme commencement date. In case the nominated person does not attend, the sponsoring company can nominate another person to attend the programme with prior intimation.

In the event of not getting required number of registrations, MICA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the programme at its discretion. In the event of the programme reschedule/cancel, MICA is not liable for refund of travel or other planning expenses incurred.
