FDP on BUSINESS RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS

 

The increasing complexity of managerial decision making in the Indian Corporate has resulted into the acute need for more in-depth understanding of issues at hand and to find the optimum solution to the business problem. For this, the need for structured and scientific business research has gained attention in Indian subcontinent like never before. But at the same time, the management researchers are facing new and varied problems regarding Research Methodology and it’s application in day-to-day business practices.

In this situation, a need is always felt in quality committed institutions to train the faculty in Research Methodology in a manner that at the end of the day, they speak the language of ‘Search for Knowledge’. The present programme is designed in such a way so it gives exposure to the participants about research problems formulation, application of appropriate research design and skills of data generation, data processing and statistical analysis at both; basic and advance level.

 

Programme Objective and Learning Outcomes

The objective of the workshop is to provide hands on experience to the participants in understanding the process of conducting basic as well as advance management research. The participants will be able to learn in-depth use of statistical softwares that are widely used or conducting business research study. At advance level, the participants will get exposure to various multivariate methods in research and understand advance issues of research like understanding of econometrics, concept of heteroscedasticity, structural equation modelling etc. Though other methods like qualitative research will also be covered, the primary focus will be on survey research.

Pedagogy

Application of concepts and frameworks will be through case analysis, discussions, software training, exercises and lectures.

 

Programme Faculty

The programme is designed and conducted by faculty at MICA who possess rich experience in academia, industry and consulting.

Dr. Rasananda Panda (Program coordinator)

Prior to joining MICA, Dr Rasananda Panda was working as an Associate Professor in the Economics Area at School of Petroleum Management, a constituent School of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar. He was also Chief Economist (on contract) to Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) – a Govt. of Gujarat undertaking during the period October 2009 to September, 2010. Earlier he was also with MICA (2002-2007) as Associate Professor in the area of Business Economics and Finance. He started his career as a Trainee Academic Associate in the Economics area of IIMA and worked there for three years. He was a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer for five years with P.G. Centre for Management Studies of Gujarat University SLIMS), Ahmedabad. Dr. Panda is a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Utkal University, Orissa. He specializes in Macroeconomics and Applied Econometrics. Other academic interest includes econometric analysis of consumer behavior models and economic analysis of Integrated Marketing Communications industries especially media and advertisement. He has also developed some kind of preliminary Brand Valuation Model (quantitative) for some of the Indian companies purely for academic purpose. He has participated at number of advanced level courses in Econometrics and Environmental Economics at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkatta.

Dr. Rohit Trivedi

Dr. Rohit H. Trivedi is working as Associate Professor in Marketing area at MICA.

Dr. Trivedi has completed his M.Com, MBA , U.G.C. – N.E.T (Management) and Ph.D

He has been also awarded, the ‘Commonwealth-AMDISA International Post Doctoral Fellowship 2008’. He has more than 12 years of experience in teaching, training, research and consultancy. He has published research papers in peer-reviewed international journals such as Marketing Intelligence & Planning, International Journal of Emerging Market, Information Sciences and International Journal of Business Environment. He has also published three book chapters and six articles in magazines of national repute. Besides these, he has presented papers in more than 15 seminars and conferences of national and international level. He is the recipient of the ‘Best Research Paper Award’ in the 8th International Entrepreneurship Forum’ organised by the University of Essex, OECD and LEED at MICA, Ahmedabad. Dr. Trivedi has also designed and conducted FDPs and MDPs attended by participants of various organisations including Mahindra & Mahindra, Kansai Nerolac, Eureka Forbes, Hafele India, Emami Limited, PDPU, Fore School of Management etc., in the area of new product development, multivariate data analysis and applied marketing research.

Dr. Sarla Achuthan

Dr. Sarla Achuthan is currently Director, Research and Development in Gujarat Law Society, Ahmedabad. She started her career as a research staff in the IIMA. Later she joined B.K. School of Business Management, Gujarat University, and was Director of the School for 15 years. She was also concurrently In-Charge Director of K.S. School of Business Management, another business School of Gujarat University for over 10 years. She had played an active role in the growth of Management Education in Gujarat. She has taught in a number of Management Institutions as a visiting faculty, including IIM and MICA. She was the Convener of the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET), a single window system for admissions to MBA and MCA programmes of Universities of Gujarat, for three years. She was involved in several AICTE, UGC and internationally funded projects. She has a number of publications and a number of students have completed their Ph.D. under her guidance. She is currently on the Board of ASE Capital Market Ltd. and was also on the Board of Ahmedabad Stock Exchange.
