A room bustling with activity, speakers, sound-proofing, microphones all around, somebody practicing to record the next song, another person on the laptop, earphones on, editing content, two people listening to earlier transmissions and a small group discussing what the listeners' reactions were: This is MICAVAANI, MICA's own community radio.
MICAVAANI transmits to the neighbouring villages with a radius of approximately 5kms around MICA and everything from recording, production, post-production and marketing is done by MICANs themselves. The various programmes transmitted at MICAVAANI are: Tamara Geet, Nanivaani, Tamara Des, Tamara Doctor, Tamara Cricket, Tamari Rasoi, Tamari Vaat, and Kahani Poori Filmy Hai. The enclosed walls of the studio have seen some of the finest talents being displayed and also had MTv making a cameo appearance. MICAVAANI is truly the voice of MICA.
MICAVAANI was launched on 14th November 2005 in keeping up with MICA's mission and commitment towards literacy, education, and the use of communication to improve the quality of life in our neighbouring communities. The station was launched with the joint efforts of faculty and students from various programmes at MICA, all responsible for the setting up and functioning of MICAVAANI.
We conducted a 'War of the RJ's' during our annual fest MICANVAS which was a refreshing challenge. The Radio Mirchi head was one of our judges, and he shared his experiences about the radio world. The contestants had all of us in stitches with their highly entertaining entries. The judges were impressed by both the contestants as well as MICAVAANI's ability to conduct and manage such an event.
This year MICAVAANI takes a giant leap furthering its cause of developing the community as schools gear up to include MICAVAANI in their daily timetable.
